The pillars of National Honor Society are character, leadership, service, and scholarship.
By being an active member in a Dimond service club, the service requirement is fulfilled. Maintaining a 3.5 GPA each semester satisfies the scholarship pillar. Failure to satisfy the academic or service requirements will initially result in probation. Then once re-evaluated, if the student has fulfilled the requirements they will be reinstated, and if they have not, they will be dismissed.
The leadership and character pillars are equally important pillars of NHS, and failure to uphold these standards can result in suspension or dismissal from the chapter. Students are expected to be role models and showcase exemplary behavior inside and outside of school.
The NHS Constitution explicitly states in Article 10, Section 2 that: “Members who fall below the standards that were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter adviser and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency, except that in the case of flagrant violation of school rules or the law, a member does not have to be warned.”
Actions outside of school can and will affect a student’s position within the chapter resulting in either suspension or dismissal. No illegal activities such as the underaged consumption of drugs or alcohol will be tolerated whether that be at a school sanctioned event or elsewhere.
